As the established leader in perioperative medicine, this course aims to provide practitioners with the most up-to-date knowledge necessary to deliver effective, evidence-based care by affecting healthcare practices at the level of the individual and the larger health system.

The curriculum for this course was specifically created to address the needs of clinicians who provide care for patients before, during and after surgery. Main Course
ACCME Learning Objectives (Main Course)- Max 24 credits

• Describe current guidelines for preoperative cardiac and pulmonary risk assessment and list several ways to predict and prevent cardiac and pulmonary complications using preoperative testing and intraoperative and postoperative interventions.
• Describe bleeding and thrombotic risks in surgical patients and list several strategies to reduce complications through evidence-based use of blood conservation methods, transfusion, coagulation testing, anticoagulant reversal agents, and/or management of anti-thrombotic drug therapies.
• Describe strategies to control acute postoperative pain using multimodal analgesia and reduce risk for chronic opioid dependency.
• Recognize how to prevent, diagnose, and treat common healthcare associated infections that complicate surgical procedures.
• Describe the perioperative complications associated with diabetes, renal insufficiency, delirium, and frailty, and list management strategies to optimize outcomes in patients with these medical conditions.
• Recognize the impact of structural and cultural factors related to the healthcare system (e.g. provider stress, safety culture, communication strategies) on the safety and quality of healthcare delivery, and describe the potential of various multi-disciplinary programs (e.g. enhanced recovery after surgery) to improve health outcomes.

POINT of CARE ULTRASOUND (POCUS) CURRICULUM (Optional)
This optional course will be given as 2 separate workshops. Participants can choose to participate on Mon February 17 from 2-5 PM or Tue February 18 from 2-5 PM.

ACCME learning objectives (POCUS)- Max 3 credits

• Recognize basic views for real-time ultrasound guided vascular access and perform vascular access on simulation equipment
• Recognize and interpret basic transthoracic ultrasound views of cardiac and lung structures
• Apply basic ultrasound algorithms to diagnose and manage an unstable perioperative patient.

LATE FEE AND REFUND POLICY
A $50 late fee applies to registrations received after 5:00 p.m. ET on February 10, 2020. A handling fee of $50 will be deducted for cancellation. An additional fee may apply for cancellation of other events, including workshops and social activities. Refund requests must be received by fax or mail by February 10, 2020. No refunds will be made thereafter. Transfer of registration to another Johns Hopkins activity in lieu of cancellation is not possible.

SYLLABUS
Option 1:
The syllabus will be accessible online and via your mobile device in the CloudCME App prior to the activity. A link to the syllabus will be provided via email shortly before the activity begins if you prefer to study or print the syllabus.

Option 2:
A syllabus that includes the slides on a flashdrive and paper for note-taking will be available for an additional fee of $25. A printed copy of the syllabus will be available for an additional fee of $105. The flash drive copy and printed copy will be provided during activity registration. Please indicate your selection on the registration page. Cancellations or refunds for the syllabus will not be permitted.

SOCIAL EVENT
A complimentary reception for registrants and faculty will be held on Saturday, February 15, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on the Sunset Terrace. Light snacks will be served. Pre-registration will also be available during that time. Please indicate your attendance on the registration form.

HOW TO OBTAIN CREDIT
Post activity, an online evaluation form will be available to attendees to evaluate the activity and individual presentations and identify future educational needs. Upon completion of the evaluation, the learner must attest to the number of hours in attendance. Credits earned will be added to the learner’s transcript and immediately available for print. The last day to access the evaluation and attest to your credits is March 22, 2020.

An outcome survey will be sent to all physician attendees within two months post activity to assist us in determining what impact this activity had on the learner’s practice.
