Overview
This activity has been postponed until further notice.

Infectious diseases kill more people worldwide than any other single cause and are among the most common reasons for hospitalization. Infectious diseases is a dynamic field, and new challenges have emerged facing frontline providers. Primary care providers, emergency department providers and hospitalists are often the first to identify and treat infections in patients.Changes in the health care system have prompted the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines and clinical pathways. These all impact generalist providers, who may have limited time and resources to access expert and up-to-date information in infectious diseases

Objectives
  1. Discuss the clinical manifestations of different syndromes such as sexually transmitted infections, chronic osteomyelitis, and urinary tract infections, and the recommended testing and treatment for each.
  2. Formulate a plan for the initial evaluation and management of patients with clinical syndromes such as endocarditis, pneumonia, central nervous system infection, and fever and rash.
  3. Describe the indications for use of several new antibiotics and overall principles for antibiotic stewardship.
  4. Apply current guideline recommendations for Lyme disease, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and the management of Clostridioides difficile infection.
