Overview

The purpose of the 1-1/2 hour Curriculum Development for Johns Hopkins Hospital Ophthalmology is to reintroduce participants to a six-step model for curriculum development, resources, and faculty development opportunities for further developing one's curriculum development skills with a particular emphasis on curriculum development as a form of educational scholarship. A broad overview of curriculum development principles is provided, and participants engage in two facilitated exercises to learn how to apply important curriculum development steps to a current curricular project and discuss options for increasing their participation in educational scholarship. Participants in this workshop were identified/invited by ophthalmology leadership to participate because of their roles in ophthalmology education within the institution.

Objectives
  1. Explain why a scholarly and systematic approach to curriculum development is beneficial.
  2. Describe the 6 steps of curriculum development.
  3. Demonstrate congruence between steps in their own curricular segments.
