Overview
Emergency airway management in critically ill patients outside the controlled setting of the operating room is associated with a higher incidence of difficult intubations, especially since the Covid19 pandemic. This full day activity will begin with didactic lectures of fundamental knowledge related to these procedures. The second half of the activity will provide participants valuable handson training with our interventional pulmonary staff in small groups with different techniques and equipment for managing the airway. This accredited education will address very specific skill sets that will help clinicians improve management of their patients care by offering simulation airway training which is associated with better outcomes, by way of multidisciplinary didactic lectures from our multidisciplinary faculty, who are formally trained in a wide spectrum of airway and interventional pulmonary procedures. This activity is designed to also provide learners with an interactive handson experience in percutaneous tracheostomy and advance airway management using cadavers.

Objectives
  1. Implement proper patient selection for percutaneous tracheostomy and gastrostomy tubes.
  2. Recognize a potential complex airway and list various techniques for advanced airway management.
  3. Perform percutaneous tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube on a cadaver or simulation model.
