Overview

The 7th Annual Pediatric Brain Symposium is intended for a broad range of providers who work within the bounds of brain health sciences. Featuring professionals in various fields of the neurosciences, this conference will address issues in pediatric brain health with a focus on epilepsy, movement disorders, and behavioral health.

Objectives
  1. Identify and apply evidence-based strategies for the recognition, assessment, and management of suicidality in pediatric patients within clinical and community settings.
  2. Describe the impact of workplace violence on healthcare providers, and implement techniques to promote safety, resilience, and wellness in the workplace.
  3. Differentiate between tic disorders and other movement disorders in children and adolescents, and utilize appropriate diagnostic tools and treatment modalities.
  4. Evaluate and manage feeding and swallowing disorders (dysphagia) in pediatric patients, incorporating interdisciplinary approaches and referrals as needed.
  5. Recognize and treat communication disorders in children through collaboration with speech-language pathologists and other allied professionals.
  6. Implement multidisciplinary approaches for diagnosing and managing complex neurological disorders, including movement disorders and drug-resistant epilepsy, utilizing emerging treatment options, such as dietary, therapy, neuromodulation, and surgical interventions.
  7. Interpret recent developments in pediatric neuroimmunology and apply current evidence to clinical practice in the diagnosis and management of related conditions.
  8. Assess current trends in pediatric migraine treatment, including pharmacologic and device-based interventions, and apply best practices for individualized care.
  9. Demonstrate enhanced skills in high-stakes communication, particularly during emotionally charged interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
  10. Screen, intervene, and refer appropriately for behavioral and mental health concerns, with a special focus on integrated mental health services in pediatric practice.
  11. Describe evolving diagnostic criteria and sex-based differences in autism spectrum disorders, applying current research to clinical assessment and care planning.
  12. Promote and prioritize provider wellbeing, recognizing its role in enhancing patient safety, reducing burnout, and improving job satisfaction and clinical outcomes.
  13. Apply tools and strategies learned during the symposium to improve interdisciplinary collaboration among primary care providers, specialists, and nursing teams in the care of pediatric neuroscience patients.
