Overview
Art museum-based education in health professions has been shown to positively impact key skills that are essential to practicing clinically excellent medicine, including close observation, critical thinking, tolerance of ambiguity, and empathy. Such activities also promote dialogue, communication, reflection, and resilience. This highly-interactive session will bring the art museum to the virtual environment, and is grounded in museum-based pedagogical approaches. Participants will engage in facilitated observation, reflection, and discussion of art, including a Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) session. VTS is a pedagogical framework developed by a cognitive psychologist and museum educator that encourages discovery, perspective sharing, and perspective-taking, and its impacts on critical thinking, creative thinking and reasoning have been demonstrated to be transferable beyond the museum. Participants will learn how art museum-based education may be relevant to their roles as clinicians, educators, and individuals.
