This course is designed to teach the basics of airway management as well as advanced skills to manage different airway scenarios for pediatrics patients to all disciplines of medicine involved in the care of children. Participants will be exposed to and become comfortable using various ventilation and intubation devices via hands-on skill stations within the Johns Hopkins Medicine Simulation Center. A home study component will consist of didactic sessions and pre-test, required prior to in-person attendance. Commonly-encountered scenarios including those found the in Emergency Department, ICU, operating rooms and pre-hospital settings, will be simulated to reinforce and emphasize the objectives of the course. Home study material will be provided and a pre-requisite.

Objectives
  1. Identify and perform effective bag-valve mask ventilation and standard,direct laryngoscopy.
  2. Discover unique aspects of videolaryngoscopy for performing a video-laryngoscopic intubation on a simulator.
  3. Outline the approach to airway management, including personnel anddevice resource allocation and utilization.
  4. Explain and perform invasive/surgical airway management for the emergent airway in children on a simulator.
  5. Perform placement of a supraglottic airway.
  6. Combine effective airway management techniques in simulated real-life scenarios.
