  • Overview
  • Faculty

Date & Location
Wednesday, October 28, 2020, 12:00 AM - Thursday, October 28, 2021, 12:00 AM

Target Audience
Specialties - Endocrinology, Geriatric Medicine, Nurse Practitioner, Nursing, Ophthalmology, Physician Assistant

Overview

Recognizing that healthcare professionals providing care to patients with diabetes, including family physicians, ophthalmologists, and endocrinologists, play a critical role in identifying individuals who have or are at increased risk for these conditions as well as reinforcing the value of newer treatments to prevent vision loss, we propose an online PeerView Make a Case activity. This next-generation, case-based format combines trusted and valued patient-scenario pedagogy with a choose-your-own-adventure style interaction and customization. Learners will be able to access the activity on any computer or mobile device according to their own learning style via the following visual, auditory and multimodal formats. Examples include: • Online multimedia combination of audio, video and slides • Slide sets and Practice Aid tools • Podcasts and MP3s • eBook/Monograph for download or print

Objectives
  1. Describe current evidence-based recommendations for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with suspected DR with or without DME
  2. Facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment initiation, as appropriate, for patients with DR with or without DME
  3. Incorporate strategies that overcome barriers to ensure timely and appropriate referral to ophthalmologic specialists who can utilize treatment regimens that have been shown to improve outcomes and/or encourage regression of DR in patients with diabetes
