Target Audience
Specialties - Oncology, Radiologic Tech, Radiology

Overview

Pre-Requisite Digital Modules - Available March 27, 2026

In-Person, Live Activity - April 10 and 11, 2026

This activity is designed for radiation oncologists, radiation oncologists in training, medical physicists, and medical physics trainees to obtain a broad understanding of the fundamentals of proton therapy, clinical evidence for proton therapy across disease sites, proton planning principles, and potential future directions of proton research and implementation. Participants in this course will gain an understanding of intensity modulated proton therapy and its nuanced indications, benefits, pitfalls, and considerations, which continue to evolve over time in the context of research advancements. Understanding the appropriate utilization of proton therapy will enhance the clinical practice of radiation oncology, and in particular, the incorporation of proton therapy as a radiation modality into routine clinical practice.

Objectives
  1. Recognize the basic physics, rationale, and theoretical advantages and disadvantages of proton therapy.
  2. Identify the currently available, evidence based guidelines for proton therapy in various adult and pediatric disease sites.
  3. Explore the evolving and future indications for scanning beam proton therapy.
  4. Discuss the complexities of the treatment planning processes and practical aspects of treatment delivery for proton therapy.
