Description

This course will provide speech-language pathologists with an update on current practice patterns and evidence-based research in the field of dysphagia covering adult and pediatric populations across multiple etiologies (neurogenic, head and neck cancer, GI).

Who Should Attend

This activity is intended for speech-language pathologists.


Objectives
  1. Describe the anatomy and physiology of normal feeding and swallowing.
  2. Explain the neural basis of coexisting swallowing and communication disorders after stroke.
  3. State functional outcomes associated with dysphagia.
  4. State the effects of medical interventions, such as, chemoradiation and mechanical ventilation or swallowing.
  5. Describe current evidence-based practices in otolaryngology, gastroenterology, pediatrics and speech-language pathology intervention to treat dysphagia.

Accreditation
The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit

This course is offered for 0.60 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate Level; Professional Area).
