Overview

We continue to see great advances in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver disease. Therapy continues to evolve in multiple directions.  There are constantly new medications being approved for inflammatory bowel disease. The line is also blurring between the traditional realms of endoscopy and surgery. We are now seeing novel endoscopic approaches for the treatment of GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, and acute pancreatitis  To maintain their practices, gastroenterologists and surgeons need to stay up to date on a wide range of topics including approach to resecting the difficult polyp, understanding the best approach to withdrawing therapy in IBD, as well as for management of ischemic colitis, and an update on management of  metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASLD); yet formal education in these areas is limited. It is difficult for practicing physicians and surgeons to stay abreast of these new advances. This year we pay special emphasis on inflammatory bowel disease with a whole day dedicated to the topic, including the addition of two distinguished outside speakers.  Please join us for the Medical and Surgical Gastroenterology – A Multidisciplinary Approach - this is the 43rd year for the course!

Objectives
  1. Identify recently approved therapies for Crohns and ulcerative colitis.
  2. Identify updates in the management of HBV and HCV.
  3. Restate the endoscopic options for the patient with PSC related bile duct strictures.
  4. Describe the surgical approach to pancreatic cancer.
  5. Describe the surgical options available to patients with cholangiocarcinoma.
  6. Review state of the art management for patients with hereditary polyposis syndromes.
