Overview
This 25th annual conference is intended as a practical overview for pathologists who encounter gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatobiliary specimens in daily practice. Interpretation of biopsy and resection specimens will be addressed, as well as recent advances in ancillary testing and molecular diagnostics. Case presentations will be featured to apply presented concepts. Participants should come away with a better understanding of the diagnostic approach to nonneoplastic and neoplastic diagnoses and the application of modern molecular techniques.

Objectives
  1. Apply diagnostic criteria for appendiceal mucinous neoplasms.
  2. Recognize clinicopathologic and prognostic differences among subtypes of colorectal carcinomas.
  3. Recognize how to use ancillary techniques to enhance diagnostic accuracy in colorectal cancer.
  4. Describe how to diagnosis Barrett esophagus and assess for dysplasia.
  5. Develop a differential diagnosis for Helicobacter negative gastritis.
  6. Identify and distinguish dysplasia in inflammatory bowel disease from reactive and regenerative changes, with emphasis on challenging and borderline cases.
  7. Describe the latest updates to genomic biomarkers for targeted colon cancer therapies.
  8. Discuss several types of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors, with emphasis on their location and depth in the gastrointestinal tract.
  9. Recognize the clinical, morphologic, and immunophenotypic characteristics of gastrointestinal lymphoproliferative disorders.
  10. Assess the utility of routine, special and immunohistochemical stains in constructing a final diagnosis for a liver mass directed biopsy.
  11. Recognize the morphology of typical and atypical acute cellular rejection, chronic rejection, and antibody mediated rejection in liver allografts.
  12. Identify the difference between welldifferentiated neuroendocrine tumors and neuroendocrine carcinomas of the pancreas.
  13. Know the most important categories of nonneoplastic mimickers of pancreatic neoplasms.
  14. Describe how ancillary testing can be used to improve the performance of pancreatic cyst fine needle aspiration.
