Overview
The Third Annual Mid-Atlantic Neurocritical Care Symposium will bring together experts from Johns Hopkins University, ChristianaCare, Inova, MedStar Health, Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Virginia, and beyond to discuss caring for critically ill neurological patients, as well as highlight recent innovations in the field. This year’s symposium theme is Beyond the Guidelines. We will offer insight into important management decisions where the level of evidence does not support strong recommendations in guidelines or where guidelines do not exist.

Objectives
After attending this activity, the learner will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge of core diagnoses and pathologies managed in the NCCU.
  2. Explain recent advances in the care of patients in the NCCU especially where guidelines are weak or do not exist.
  3. Describe the utilization of NCCU specific monitoring equipment.
  4. Identify the appropriate indications for procedures specific to the NCCU.
  5. Compare the fundamentals of care in the NCCU when managing complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions.

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
