Overview
The Seventh International Tracheostomy Symposium (ITS), is a CME conference where specialist teams from around the world have collaborated to create an illuminating and visionary two-day program. The care of patients with tracheostomy and ventilation crosses numerous disciplines, facilities, care streams and teams. Patient acuity and numbers are increasing and there are growing numbers of health care professionals requiring specialist skills to manage this high-risk group. The Symposium includes scientists, clinicians, doctors, allied health staff, nurses, researchers, and others who will join with experts to share the latest knowledge, advances, and best practices.

Objectives
  1. Explain the elements of a multidisciplinary approach to tracheostomy care and how it relates to related goal of institution-wide change.
  2. Describe methods to improve patient/family engagement and staff education/training in tracheostomy care
  3. Explain the benefits of standardized tracheostomy care protocols.
  4. Name one quality improvement strategy that has been demonstrated to improve outcomes or patient satisfaction, or decrease length of stay, readmission or adverse events.
  5. Name one tracheostomy-related outcome that has been shown to improve after the implementation of a multidisciplinary tracheostomy care team.
  6. Identify opportunities and targets in his/her own institution for improvements in tracheostomy care.
  7. Describe how a quality improvement collaborative may disseminate strategies for improving patient care.
