Overview

The Patient Engagement Program (PEP) workshop teaches providers evidence-based communication and relationship-building skills from motivational interviewing and shared-decision making. These skills improve patient engagement in health and improve patient experience with health care. In this workshop, a provider will learn how to be more efficient and more effective in communicating with patients and families.

This activity is for Hopkins physicians and Advanced Practitioners ONLY (School of Medicine or JHCP) and a 2-hour asynchronous online curriculum will be required in advance of the workshop. Once registered, you will receive additional information about how to access the online curriculum.

Objectives
  1. Identify three new communication techniques that I can integrate in my standard of care to help my patients feel like partners in health care.
  2. Name the four components of the "patient engagement spirit" and give one example of how you will apply the four components to patient care.
  3. Determine a patient's level of readiness for change and identify an appropriate corresponding intervention.
