Overview

The 8th Annual Practical Topics in Pediatric Emergency Medicine will be a three-day live program held at the Marriott Suites on Sand Key in Clearwater Beach, Florida. This year's conference will feature didactic presentations by faculty at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and will also include a Friday pre-conference workshop, "Care for the Complex Child", including topics on autism, chronic pain management, acute conditions in the complex patient, and parent simulation training. Presentation topics include: Eye Emergencies, Management of Acute Abdominal Pain, Dental Emergencies, Sports-Related Injuries, Toxicology, and General Trauma. Saturday will be dedicated to simulation workshops on Common Pediatric Scenarios. The goal of this conference is to make healthcare professionals more comfortable with common pediatric emergency clinical scenarios and procedures.

  1. Recognize common pediatric emergency scenarios to optimize care and appropriately refer/transfer.
  2. Incorporate principles of acute care for patients with chronic health conditions.
  3. Translate simulation-based training into practice to improve patient outcomes.
