Overview
The goal of this course is to educate primary care providers to enhance basic skills and competencies in evaluation and management of common ambulatory musculoskeletal (MSK) complaints. In this course, our approach is multi-disciplinary and comprehensive, with speakers from rheumatology, orthopedics, spine, sports medicine, physical and occupational therapy. Hence, we aim to bring together expertise from different fields of MSK medicine to focus on 1) what is new in this field, 2) how to improve patient care and clinical outcomes and 3) finally how to enhance provider skills and confidence.

Late Fee and Refund Policy
A $50 late fee applies to registrations received after 5:00 p.m. ET on September 16, 2018. A handling fee of $50 will be deducted for cancellation. An additional fee may apply for cancellation of other events, including workshops and social activities. Refund requests must be received by fax or mail by September 16, 2018. No refunds will be made thereafter. Transfer of registration to another Johns Hopkins activity in lieu of cancellation is not possible.


Objectives
  1. Differentiate inflammatory from non-inflammatory joint and back complaints.
  2. Design a key diagnostic workup of MSK conditions, including the need for orthopedic, rheumatology, or sports medicine referral.
  3. Describe basic principles of diagnosis and management of back pain, inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis, soft tissue rheumatism, and common orthopedic issues.
  4. Identify the role of physical and occupational therapy in MSK conditions.
  5. Discuss the role of pain management in MSK conditions.
