  • Tests

Date & Location
Monday, August 17, 2026, 8:00 AM - Monday, August 16, 2027, 12:00 PM

Target Audience
Specialties - Family Practice, Geriatric Medicine, Hospitalist, Internal Medicine, Multiple Specialties, Nurse Practitioner, Nursing, Pharmacist, Physician Assistant

Overview
As the older adult population lives longer and becomes increasingly diverse, it is imperative to offer high quality continuing education in the care and management of older patients across the health care spectrum. Health care is faced with an increase in persons with dementia and those with multiple chronic conditions. Many clinicians and health care professionals receive very little to no formal geriatrics training, despite this growing trend in the number of older adults they care for. This activity is designed to provide practical information to clinicians and health care providers who care for older adults with dementia and dementia related diseases. It will improve knowledge about diseases and syndromes common in the older adult and offer practical and effective guides to their management.

Objectives
  1. Identify approaches to and limits of management of specific diseases of organ systems that are common in older adults with dementia and dementia related diseases.
  2. Recognize the growing older population and awareness of health disparities when providing care to meet the individual needs of patients with dementia and dementia related diseases.
  3. Describe the path from diagnosis to management of a person with dementia and the role of the health care team.
  4. Develop individualized, evidence based management plans for patients with dementia by integrating appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment strategies.
