Course Description
One-hour slide presentation presenting the prevalence of HPV infection, the types of infections it causes, the safety and efficacy of the HPV vaccine, the perceived barriers healthcare professionals face in terms of administering this vaccine, and the strategies that can be implemented to overcome the perceived barriers in the following cohorts: males and females ages 15-26 years of age who have not previously been vaccinated

Who Should Participate
This activity is intended for undergraduate and graduate college healthcare clinicians, providers in infectious disease, pediatrics, adolescent medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, family practice, HIV specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, hospitalists, registered nurses and other care providers with roles in providing vaccination to females and males between the ages of 15 and 26.

Objectives
After participating in this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Discuss the prevalence of HPV infection, the types of cancers it causes and the impact of HPV vaccination in the U.S.
  2. State the ACIP recommendations for HPV vaccination in eligible men and women between 15-26 years of age if not previously vaccinated.
  3. Identify perceived barriers by both healthcare providers and patients to HPV vaccination.
  4. Apply strategies to overcome perceived barriers to HPV vaccination in men and women between 15-26 years of age.
