Overview
Peer review is a critical component to the process of reporting research. This component includes reviewing manuscripts as well as overseeing the peer review process by editors and editorial board members. While these processes are important skills and services to the scientific community, navigating the art of peer review and editor tasks can be a daunting process, considering the scarcity of formal training opportunities with in the realm of vision research. Understanding these processes can be important to authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and editors. This course aims to bridge the crucial gap, guided by the expertise of Editors in Chief from prestigious vision science journals, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, JAMA Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Science, Optometry and Vision Science, and Translational Vision Science and Technology. Through a blend of didactic instruction and engaging roundtable discussions, this course will unveil the nuances of effective peer review and the peer review process in ophthalmology and vision science.

Objectives
  1. Describe the key steps and stakeholders involved in the journal peer-review process.
  2. Identify effective methods for critically evaluating and reviewing a scientific manuscript.
  3. Compose a constructive peer review that provides valuable feedback to both authors and journal editors.
