Maria Trent, MD, MPH, FAAP, FSAHM

Dr. Trent is a Professor of Pediatrics, American Health, and Nursing at Johns Hopkins University and Chief of the Division of Adolescent/ Young Adult Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is an endowed professor of American Health and an independent research scientist and serves as the principal or key investigator on multiple research projects and training grants funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other funding agencies. A significant focus of Dr. Trent’s research and clinical interest has been on reducing adolescent and young adult sexual and reproductive health disparities. Dr. Trent is a past President of the Society for Adolescent Health, served two terms as Chair of the Executive Committee for the Section on Adolescent Health within the American Academy of Pediatrics, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Sexual Health Association, Advocates for Youth, and the Pediatric Academic Societies. She is a sought-after speaker and the author of scientific research articles, editorials, book chapters, and patient-directed media in child and adolescent health. Professional organizations and the lay press have recognized Dr. Trent for her work, and she has emerged as an important voice and forceful advocate for the health and well-being of young people and those who care for them.
