Murugappan Ramanathan, Jr., MD FACS

Dr. Ramanathan is Associate Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins and is also a consultant rhinologist/endoscopic skull base surgeon for the Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. He received his B.S. from Yale, M.D. from University of Texas Medical Branch, and completed his Otolaryngology residency and Rhinology/Endoscopic Skull Base fellowship at Johns Hopkins.  He is the Director of Johns Hopkins Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery for the Washington, DC/National Capital Region.  He also serves as the co-fellowship director of the Johns Hopkins Neuro-rhinology fellowship.  He has a busy clinical practice focused on complex revision endoscopic sinus surgery, endoscopic approaches to the orbit, and the endoscopic management of sinonasal and skull base tumors.  He is an active member of the American Rhinologic Society where he serves as the Chair of the newly created Mentorship Committee focusing on providing career and research mentorship to young rhinologists.  As a funded surgeon-scientist, Dr. Ramanathan was previously awarded an NIEHS K23 Mentored Career Development Award and FAMRI Young Clinical Scholars Award and now has R01 funding from the NIH/NIAID to study the role of air pollution in causing chronic rhinosinusitis from a molecular and epidemiologic perspective. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious research awards, including the Edmund Prince Fowler Award from the Triological Society and is frequently invited to speak about his research at national and international meetings.
