Currently I serve as the director of the pediatric radiation oncology program for the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital, a clinical collaboration between Children’s National Medical Center and the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center. I am also an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and adjunct faculty at Children’s National Medical Center in the department of Oncology and Hematology. My research focuses on late effects in pediatric brain tumor and sarcoma patients. This effort led to the publication of the first prospective trial using proton therapy for the treatment of pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma with the goal of reducing long-term complications of radiation therapy. Currently my primary research focus has been on neurocognitive impact of CNS radiation in pediatric brain tumor patients. With the help of Dr. Kristina Hardy, I have reviewed the neurocognitive outcomes for the recently closed Children’s Oncology Group ACNS0331 study of standard risk medulloblastoma and using advanced radiation dosimetry techniques, have correlated neurocognitive outcomes with patterns of radiation dose to sensitive brain structures. This work has been present as an oral session during both the International Society of Pediatric Neuro-oncology and the Children’s Oncology Group annual meeting, where our project was awarded the young investigator prize for best original research Selected recent publications related to my work are: PUBLICATIONS: Original Research - Rao AD, Figueiredo ML, Chen Q, Alcorn SR, Chen MJ, Ladra MM, et al.
