Dr. Ortiz a sleep medicine physician at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Dr. Ortiz earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Charleston Area Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Afterwards, he completed a fellowship in sleep medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. His research and clinical interests include narcolepsy and other disorders of hypersomnia as well as examining the interaction of sleep disorders on chronic pediatric diseases such bronchopulmonary dysphasia, asthma, and developmental delay. Dr. Ortiz was diagnosed with narcolepsy at the age of 21 but has had symptoms since childhood. He is also on the board of directors for the Narcolepsy Network and is its research and conference chairs.
