Dr. Chavis is a clinical psychologist at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. She serves as psychosocial clinical team leader for the Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute. Dr. Chavis serves on the Executive Committee for the International Association of Neonatal Psychologists, Training and Education committee for the National Perinatal Association, Co-Chair of the Advocacy council for NPA and on the special interest group for NICU psychologists in APA Div. 54.

Dr. Chavis earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Illinois School of Professional Psychology-Argosy University. She completed a pediatric internship in clinical psychology at New York Center for Child Development with emphasis on early childhood development and trauma. Dr. Chavis continued to specialize with fellowship at Andrus Children’s Center focusing on trauma, parent-child interactions and maternal mental health.

Dr. Chavis research interests include neurodevelopmental and social-emotional outcomes of premature infants, maternal mental health, early childhood trauma exposure and the cost-effectiveness of early psychological intervention.
